Preview and discuss Wonder Women!: The Untold Story of American Superheroines by Kristy Guevara-Flanagan.

From the birth of the comic book superheroine in the 1940s, to the blockbusters of today, Wonder Women! looks at how popular representations of powerful women often reflect society's anxieties about women's liberation.

Community Cinema is presented locally as a partnership between VPT, Catamount Arts, the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Lane Series at UVM, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UVM and the Rutland Free Library.

Discussion in Montpelier

Community members viewed the documentary, then discussed it and the greater issue of the struggle for women's rights with a panel at the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier, Vermont.

The two panelists were: Kelly Walsh, Director of Girls' Programs at Vermont Works for Women; and Daniel Barlow, Co-Founder of Trees and Hills Comics Group, photographer, and lobbyist for Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility.

Vermont Public Television and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier have teamed up to present Community Cinema, a series of discussions featuring films that are part of VPT's series, Independent Lens.
